Horse Riding

Horse riding can be an extremely enjoyable and rewarding hobby. Horse Riding lessons can be started at an early age, and as well as participating in an energitic activity, children will learn some valuable lessons in self-discipline, patience and above all responsibility through Horse Riding. You don’t have to own a horse to take Horse Riding lessons, but you will be taught how to take care of a horse, from grooming to “mucking out” to hoof care and diet/nutrition. These lessons can be extremely beneficial to a child’s development, instilling them with a sense of responsibility.

Most  beginners Horse Riding lessons will cover the rudiments of mounting and dismounting a horse, trotting, cantering and galloping, and once these principles have been mastered the student can progress to learn about jumping. From there, the student can advance to one of the specialist Horse Riding disciplines ie Dressage. As well as learning how to ride, the student will need to learn about all the equipment used in riding a horse, ie the saddle, stirrups, crop, blinkers and reins.

Basic Horse Riding tips

Tips for Horse Riding lessons

  1. Buy a decent, well fitting helmet. This is an absolute must!!
  2. Keep your heels down at all times when in the stirrups.
  3. This will make you more secure and also ensure that you don’t get caught up in the stirrups if the horse bolts
  4. Keep your back straight and sit upright in the saddle, don’t stoop your head and shoulders forward. This will give you a more secure position.
  5. Wear riding breeches at all times, get a pair of good ones.
  6. Don’t wear jeans as a beginner or you’ll slip all over the saddle.
  7. Listen to your instructor and be prepared to accept criticism!!
