Snowboarding
Snowboarding is a extremely popular wintersport, which is increasing in popularity by the day. Developed in the USA in the 1970’s, it was made an official Olympic sport in 1998. Using influences from skateboarding, surfing and skiing, snowboarding has developed many different disciplines, from freestyle jumping and the use of half-pipes etc., to pure racing down slopes. The Snowboard is a lot bigger than a skateboard and has bindings attached for the skateboarders boots, similar to skis. The Snowboard is controlled in a method similar to a skateboard, with the snowboarder switching their weight, positioning and balance on the board to navigate and control their movement.
Many younger people choose Snowboarding over Skiing, the sport has a very “hip” image, and can be extremely exciting. It is not seen as being purely about speed and racing, but acts as a form of self-expression, with Snowboarders constantly developing new skills, tricks and jumps etc.

Regular or goofy?
This is the first thing you will need to find out about yourself when learning how to snowboard. For right handed people , regular means your left foot is forward and goofy means your right foot is forward. So how can you tell? Here’s a tip. How would you slide on ice? If you know which foot you would slide forward with, this is the same foot you would snowboard forward with. Another method is to push a person forward from behind, and whichever foot they step forward with is their front foot when they are snowboarding.
