Flying Lessons
Learning to fly is not difficult and anyone with good general health and acceptable physical co-ordination can learn. Flying an aircraft or glider is an exhilirating experience and whether you take a one-off lesson or undertake a whole series of lessons in order to become a qualified pilot, leading to a career, you will always remember the experience of “taking control” for the first time!!
Typically, your first flying lessons will teach basic skills such as straight & level flight, turning, taxiing, climbing & descending, taking off & landing. Once you have mastered these skills you will move on to a second level, which is centred on Navigation Training. These lessons will teach you how to navigate by the use of Visual Flight Rules (VFR). VFR flight entails looking out the window of your aircraft and using your map to identify landmarks such as roads, towns, rivers, lakes, coastlines, train tracks etc. and using these landmarks to navigate. This stage of te raining requires between 45-75 hours and includes ground studies. Once you have completed this stage you will be issued with a PPL (Private Pilot’s licence)

Introduction to the Cockpit Control panel
Would I make a god pilot?
Before you throw yourself headlong into the proces of learning to Fly and becoming a pilot, you need to consider that learning to fly is not for everyone. As part of the process of obtaining your P.P.L. you will be assessed and tested rigorously to ensure that you have “The Right Stuff”, both physicaly and mentally. The first thing you will need is a rigorous medical exmanination to ensure that you have no medical condition that could prohibit you from being in control of your aircraft at all times. You will also be checked to ensure that you are not colour blind or suffer from motion sickness etc. Ultimately your mental character will also be assessed, how you react under pressure, your attention span and concentration skills etc. If the authorities deem that you do not reach a sufficient standard in any of the above criteria then don’t take it to heart, it just means that flying is not for you, and not that there’s necessarily anything wrong with you!!
