Basic Magic Tricks!!

The different types of Magic include:

Children’s Magic

This is the type of magic that is performed to children, not by children. This style of magic requires completely different skills to Close-Up Magic. Children’s Magic can be a tough gig, you need to be able to maintain control over a room full of young children as much as anything else!! Sleight of hand and small scale illusions work best here, steer clear of mind-bending or frightening tricks.

Close-Up magic

This type of magic, as the name sugests, is intended to be peformed to small groups, ideally no more than 10, and at close quarters. It normally invloves playing cards, coins, handkerchiefs etc.

Escapaology

Escapology involves escaping from items such as handcuffs, straitjackets, chains and locked boxes. The most famous Espapologist was the legendary Harry Houdini. This branch of magic can require tremendous physical fitness and stamina and can be quite dangerous!!

Illusions

Illusions are larger magic tricks, and are typically the sort of thing you will see on the stage or on television shows. Sawing people in half, making people disappear etc. are typical of illusions. You need to be serious about your magic if you want to get into this, as the props involved can be expensive and difficult to transport.

One last thing.....

A magician NEVER reveals how the trick is done! Resist the temptation to tell how the trick worked, keep them guessing and they'll be even more impressed with you and your show.
