Driving Lessons

Learning how to drive has become almost a rite of passage for young and old alike. As the population of the country grows and our mass becomes more spread out, we can no longer rely on Public Transport infrastructure to provide adequate and consistent services to get us where we want to go, all the time. Moreover, knowing how to drive gives us the freedom to move from A to B as we please, and lifts the restrictions of being reliant on public transport or others!! Knowing how to drive widens our career choices also, with many jobs involving the necessity to be able to drive.

You can learn how to drive at any adult age, and it’s never too late to learn. The first step you must take is to get to grips with the rules of the road through practical observation (good and bad!!) and by studying these rules and taking the Driver Test Theory Certificate.

Looking for a Driving Instructor

So you have passed your Driver Test Theory Certificate, you have your Learners Permit. Now you are ready for the next stage of your journey to passing your driving test and your full driving licence, getting your driving lessons from an Approved Driving Instructor.

What is an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI)?

The Road Safety Authority regulates all Approved Driving Instructors. These instructors must undergo a series of checks and exams to ensure that are qualified to both drive and instruct in the relevant class of vehicle and at the required level. ADI’s are also subject to background checks by An Garda Siochana to ensure they are of good standing. It is illegal for a non ADI to give paid tuition.

Which driving school?

This can be a critical decision in assisting you in passing your test! The first point is to make sure that your instructor is an ADI (Approved Driving Instructor)*. Also remember it is not all about price! The cheapest may not be the best, so make sure to shop around.

How many driving lesson hours?

It really depends on your experience, for complete beginners a minimum of ten hours tuition would be recommended, for a more experienced driver, five hours may suffice.
