A fitness boot camp is a type of physical training programme conducted by gyms, personal trainers, and in some cases former military personnel. Fitness Boot Camps have become extremely popular over the last few years, catering particularly to people who have become bored with “going it alone” at the gym. Boot Camp training’s main aim is to help participants lose body fat , increase strength and cardiovascular fitness and generally get into a routine of regular exercise. Boot Camps generally push people a little bit further than they would normally push themselves if they were in the gym. Boot Camps usually take place outdoors and typically takes the form of interval training, where exercises such as push-ups, squats, lunges etc. interspersed with jogging and sprinting . One of the main ideas behind the Boot Camps is that people work in teams, whether it’s in pairs, small teams of three or four, or larger teams. The “Boot Camp” gets its’ name from the fact that the style of the regime is similar to basic military training.

I’d love to, but.....

There is a social element to Bootcamps. Because people are working in teams, participants will make friends and socialize as they exercise, although the trainers themselves may be quite strict! However participants can support and drive each other during the exercises, and bonding and team ethic is essential to the overall Boot Camp experience.

If you are a card carrying “couch potato” who feels that a Boot Camp sounds downright scary then please don’t be put off. Your fitness will be assessed on Day 1 and  you will be pushed to a limit that your body and its’ condition can handle. A Boot Camp fitness regime can be the perfect way to get back into exrcise. Your body will get a shock for sure, but you will be exercising as part of a team and will have a laugh as you’re doing it, and best of all, you will see results fast!!!

The best way to get started in athletics is to join a club which has a qualified coach. This will give you access to training areas, specialised facilities and equipment required for track and field events. Joining a club provides an affordable way to train and be coached in one or more athletics events. There are suitable clubs all over the world which are more than welcoming to beginners in the sport, after all they are all keen to discover, train and nurture any potential talent.
