Every living thing needs proper nutrition to survive.

The effects of inadequate nutrition are rarely seen in the western world anymore, but there a still a lot of third world countries that have both starvation and poorly nutritional diets. The effects of poor nutrition will cause diseases like rickets, caused by a lack of vitamin D, scurvy lack of vitamin C etc . What is becoming more common in the western world are the effects of over-nutrition, with obesity and related complications like diabetes and heart disease on the rise.
